Case examples are discussed. The interaction of these disorders with trauma will be presented. EMDR Therapy Treatment of these disorders will be presented. This video includes self-control exercises for relaxation one meditation, basic mindfulness and progressive muscle relaxation.
EMDR Therapy for Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia, and Irritable Bowel Disorder:This is a 123 minute video which discusses the application of the basic EMDR Therapy Three Pronged approach (Past, Present and Future) to Panic, Agoraphobia and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. We describe how to incorporate the in-vivo component for Panic, Agoraphobia and Excoriation Disorder. The use of interceptive and bilateral stimulation will be explained and demonstrated. Interceptive's are exercises such as intentional hyperventilation or breathing through a straw combined with EMDR Therapy bilateral stimulation to rapidly reprocess internal triggers of Panic Disorder, Agoraphobia and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Case Examples will be provided. This protocol is based on research regarding Panic Disorder and Agoraphobia and the clinical experience of Dr. Sprowls and Dr. Marquis.
EMDR Therapy for Social Anxiety Disorder: This is a 101 minute video which discusses the EMDR Therapy Three Pronged Approach (Past, Present and Future) for working with Social Anxiety Disorder. The presenters will discuss how to incorporate social skills training and practice to increase generalization effects and processing of stimuli associated with Social Anxiety Disorder. There is a demonstration and practice exercise of various components of in-vivo processing of social anxiety triggers. This protocol is based on research regarding Social Anxiety Disorder and the clinical experience of Dr. Sprowls and Dr. Marquis

The full protocol for using EMDR Therapy with OCD will be presented. There is a mock demonstration with Dr. Marquis and Dr. Sprowls of how to help individuals suffering from OCD with Obsessions and Compulsions using EMDR Therapy. The neuropsychology of OCD will be discussed. There are tips for helping individuals to stop obsessing and to stop their compulsions. Case Examples will be provided. Popky’s Detur Protocol (See Luber, M. 2009) for treatment of Trichotillomania and Excoriation Disorder. Case Examples will be provided. This Protocol is based on research regarding Trichotillomania and Excoriation Disorder, the clinical experience of Dr. Sprowls and Dr. Marquis and the DETUR protocol.
Trauma Processing Workshop Description(180$, 7 EMDRIA CREDITS):
Getting Back to Our Roots: Processing Trauma and Basic Protocols of EMDR.
By Priscilla Marquis, Ph.D. and Christie Sprowls Psy.D.
Over the past few years we have noticed that many of our consultees have questions regarding how to follow the basic EMDR Therapy protocols. In addition, many of the innovative uses of EMDR Therapy have been geared towards Resource Development and stabilization (Leeds and Shapiro, 2000, Korn and Leeds, 2002). Resource Development and stabilization can be helpful in the preparation phase of EMDR Therapy to help stabilize and to prepare clients for trauma processing. However, some clinicians report feeling a lack of confidence in processing trauma (Lipke, 1995; Greenwald, 2006; Luber, 2009, Ferrell & Keenan, 2013) and may use resourcing strategies, delaying or avoiding processing the traumatic experiences which lay down the psychopathology in the information processing system. This presentation focuses on a review of the Basic Protocols of EMDR Therapy to aid participants in gaining confidence for trauma processing (Shapiro, 2008). Affect tolerance of the therapist is emphasized to enable more rapid and profound trauma processing with EMDR Therapy. The Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model posits that mental health problems (apart from organic deficits) are the result of memories of adverse life experiences which are not completely processed (Shapiro, 2014). While stabilization and preparation are often necessary for more complex trauma presentations, EMDR Therapy practitioners may tend to focus on stabilization over processing of trauma and adverse life experiences. In this workshop, participants have the opportunity to practice with protocols and examples to gain confidence in actual trauma processing skills. There are vignettes to help illuminate teaching points. We focus on how to choose appropriate targets for trauma processing to allow for the most complete processing of experiential contributors. For complex PTSD presentations, we discuss how to implement the EMD protocol for more controlled processing. The presentation includes lecture, power point, role play, questions and answers, vignettes and group exercises.
1. Participants will review basic EMDR Protocols and procedures.
2. Participants will gain understanding in how to choose specific targets for trauma processing in more complex cases.
3. Participants will gain affect tolerance necessary for trauma processing and understand better how to help their clients gain affect tolerance.
4. Participants will understand basic concerns related to balancing Resource Development and Installation with processing of experiential contributors of dysfunction.
5. Participants will feel more confident in their ability to process trauma and follow basic EMDR protocols in individuals with complex trauma.
